Spice Witchn'
Okay, welcome to the 'woo-woo' side of things. I believe that everything is energy. Whether it be a rock, a tree, a human, or a plant, there is energy. As such, every spice that we use in cooking has energy—or "personality" properties. Cultures around the world all have similar and different beliefs about the spiritual or magical properties of plants and herbs.

For me, the experience is more personal. I have developed a... close relationship, for lack of a better term, with my spice cabinet and the residents inside. I enjoy letting my intuition take over, opening myself up to hear the spices that 'want to come out and play' or perhaps what my body or family needs. Perhaps there is something that the spice can help aid with. Whether it be prosperity, protection (what's up salt?!), abundance, passion, healing, and so on... in my little world, the spices are like soldiers. Their goal is to offer flavor and nutrients - both physically and spiritually. I love to hold an open jar of dried herbs or spice, close my eyes, and take a few deep breaths of its aroma. Big deep breath in, filling from the belly and allowing your breath to gently travel up your sternum, resting in its full expression at the top of your lungs. It's a meditative practice that is so beautiful to connect with the ingredients you are using, ground into your space, and begin to set your intention while cooking. Smell is a wonderful tool that connects you to the world around you. Try using it sometime with your herbs & spices ;)

I think by now, we have all heard of the power of attraction.- yes? In a nutshell, your thoughts and intentions set your tone and provide power to the manifestations around you. So, in short, be mindful of your thoughts and use your intentions with ... well, intention, lol. Now, the 'witchery' comes in when I bring out my mortar and pestle. I like to combine all my herbs and spices in my mortar and pestle. As I add each ingredient, I note its intention in the recipe... salt for protection, rosemary for cleansing and memory, thyme for joy and positivity, and chili flakes for passion... then I gently begin to grind my herbs and spices together with this intention in mind. This intention is the "witchcraft", the spell or blessing of the food. Ingredients, combined together, are used with spoken intention ( aka... a spell).

So, there you have it. My definition of what it means to be Kitchin' Witchin'. Connecting with your ingredients and using them with intention to bless your food.
